We Built an AI That Wins 72% of Keywords. It Does One Thing Humans Don't.

The short answer: our AI only picks fights it can win, then makes the client strong enough to win the rest. Across 5 clients and 555 targeted keywords, 110 were ranking on day 1. Since then 397 have ranked, 302 of them reaching page 1 of Google and 196 the top 3. The rule that explains most of that is a single comparison the AI runs before it writes anything: the client's domain rating against the weakest site on page 1.

Every number in this post comes from the Google checks OGTool runs for clients every morning, pulled on 20 October 2026. The full table, client by client, is below.

Per-client table: domain rating, keywords targeted, ranked on day 1, ranked since, and reached page 1 of Google

Five OGTool clients, 20 October 2026. "Ranked" means our blog post or the client's own site reached Google's top 100 on one of our daily checks. Domain rating is DataForSEO's 0 to 1000 scale.

ClaimKit296 (21%)28 (97%)25
Total555110 (20%)397 (72%)302

OGTool daily Google rank checks, 20 October 2026.

A few of the keywords behind those rows, all with a recorded position of 1:

  • Ergeon: "best fence company chicago", "best fence company dallas"
  • Agent 37: "best ai agent hosting under $5", "agent 37 vs e2b"
  • ClaimKit: "best r&d tax advisor for startups in australia"
  • Vision: "best alternatives to hercules", "vision vs replit"

Two rows are worth reading honestly. Vision is a brand-new domain that started at domain rating 0 in July and sits at 35%. Velma is an AI receptionist competing against high-authority incumbents and sits at 42%. Both are climbing, and both show the same thing the top rows do: the win rate follows authority. Which brings us to the rule.

Step 1. The rule: the page-1 bar

For every keyword it targets, the AI pulls the current Google page 1, drops the sites a blog post can never outrank (Reddit, YouTube, Wikipedia and the other mega-platforms), and finds the weakest remaining site. That site's domain rating is the bar for the keyword. Then it compares the bar to the client's own domain rating.

Win rate above and below the page-1 bar, and the domain rating lift for the three authority clients

KeywordsRankedWin rate
Client DR above the bar40533182%
Client DR below the bar1506644%

All 5 clients combined. The bar is the domain rating of the weakest addressable site on page 1 for that keyword.

When the client's domain rating clears the weakest site on page 1, we win 82% of the time. When it doesn't, 44%. Same writers, same process, same clients. The only difference is whether the keyword was winnable for that site on that day.

That is what "our AI is intelligent" means in practice. It is not writing better prose than a human. It is refusing to spend a post on a keyword where the client's site cannot clear the bar yet, and spending it where it can.

Step 2. Raise the client over the bar

Picking winnable keywords only gets you the keywords that are winnable today. For a new domain that is not many. So the AI runs a second loop: it raises the client's domain rating so that more keywords fall above the bar.

Vision (vson.ai)0134+134
ClaimKit (claimkit.co)26124+98
Velma (heyvelma.com)93139+46

The lift comes from our customer network. OGTool clients are established businesses, and every client's blog posts earn links from the rest of the network several times a week. Vision went from a domain rating of 0 in July to 134 today. ClaimKit went from 26 to 124 and has ranked for 28 of its 29 keywords.

As the rating climbs, keywords that were below the bar in June are above it in October, and the first loop picks them up.

Step 3. Write the page that answers

Clearing the bar earns the right to compete. The post still has to win the click. Every post the AI writes leads with the direct answer, uses tables and FAQs so AI engines can lift the answer cleanly, and targets the exact question buyers type. Ergeon's "best fence company dallas" reached #1 because the page answers that question for Dallas, not because it is a long essay about fences.

That same structure is why 86 of the 528 keywords we check in AI answers are cited in ChatGPT or a Google AI Overview.

What this means for your brand

  1. Know your bar. For each keyword you care about, the weakest non-platform site on page 1 sets the price of entry. If your domain rating is above it, the keyword is winnable now.
  2. Spend content where you clear the bar. 82% vs. 44% is the difference between a content plan that compounds and one that burns budget.
  3. Raise your rating on purpose. Links from real, established sites are what moves it. A new domain can go from 0 to over 100 in a few months with steady placements.
  4. Measure every morning. Most AEO tools never check whether what they published ranks. Every number above exists because we check daily.
For your technical team: definitions and how we measured it

Definitions

  • Targeted keyword: a keyword OGTool tracks for the client and has published or planned content for. The 5 clients here are our reference case studies: Ergeon, Agent 37, Velma, Vision and ClaimKit.
  • Ranked: our blog post or the client's own site appeared in Google's top 100 for the keyword on at least one daily SERP check. "Reached page 1" means the best recorded position is 10 or better; "top 3" means 3 or better.
  • Day 1 baseline: the keyword was already ranking on its very first check, before we shipped anything for it. Day 1 falls between late May and late July 2026 depending on the client.
  • Domain rating: DataForSEO's 0 to 1000 domain rank, snapshotted daily for every client domain. It is not the 0 to 100 Ahrefs scale.
  • The bar: the lowest domain rating among addressable competitors in Google's top 10 for that keyword on its latest SERP. Reddit, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, Quora, Pinterest and Wikipedia are excluded, as are our own placements and the client's own pages. Keywords with no addressable page-1 competitor are unclassified (4 of 559).
  • Above / below the bar: whether the client's current domain rating is at or above the bar.
  • Cited in AI answers: the client was named or linked in the most recent ChatGPT answer check, or its domain was cited in a Google AI Overview, within the last 14 days.

Scope

5 clients, 559 tracked keywords (555 classified against a bar), daily Google top-100 checks, daily ChatGPT and AI Overview checks, and daily domain-rating snapshots. Snapshot generated 20 October 2026, 09:16 UTC. Win rates are a point in time and move a little every day.
